Meatloaf made by Mr. Jay Earley. Yummy southern cooking with a classy twist! White wine, apples, and carrots to start...black tea and coconut candies to finish! Awesome.

Oh, OK. So this is what you've been up to. How's the weather over there? We're sweating pretty hard here in NC.

The purple dish is a like a cold casserole...herring, beets, mayonnaise, and...more. :-) Actually quite good. Also, the dish on the right was a salad to start. Simple, yet yummy
(Left) Plov (type of rice dish) with pomegranate & chicken and potato cakes! (Middle) Setting of a Jewish sater. Novel! (Right) Fruit salad, horseradish, potato, egg, parsley...

All of these dishes were served at the cafe next to the university. A very snazzy place. The first dish is a boiled pastry with cottage cheese on the inside...very bland on its over but with the raspberry sauce on top it was quite tasty. The second photo is yet another twist of Borsche with long leaf parsley on top. The last, a delightful shrimp salad.

Borsche is everywhere in Russia and it all has its own unique twist! This one was made with vegetable stock. Always served with sour cream. The second picture is a cranberry mixture with water poured over. A very nice, semi-sweet, natural beverage to accompany the meal. The last picture you can see the spread...the other two containers...from left to right are a coleslaw and a Jewish ham and something salad...Not sure, but very tasty and something similar to a dish we'd take to a church revival...like potato salad or something. Very good on Jewish bread...that looks like crackers and I can't remember the name...and I couldn't read the box. :-)

This looks like some kind of rice pudding. Was is sweet or savory? - The pudding itself was a little bland, but with the strawberry
jam on top it was great. The texture is the amazing part. In between oatmeal and grits in thickness. Yum! (With over easy eggs!)

Comment(s): Nice spread! It looks like comfort food. The dishes are pretty, especially those little soup cups.

Comment(s): This looks like a creamy fennel or dill soup. What is it really? Man, the night time scene on the side of that cup is so cool.
Response(s): I'm not sure! BUT! I am going to learn how to make it. I asked what was in it and she said "Greens"...so...it's delicious! My family is from Azerbaijan!

Comment(s): I'm surprised they're eating strawberries this time of year, they must be expensive. I wonder what is actually in season in Russia during April time.
Response(s): The house is full of fruit! I'm not sure about what's in season but the tomatoes are simply amazing and I do know they come from Azerbaijan.

Comment(s): This has to taste better than it looks. I hope. Is that sour cream up there or sour cream mixed w/ horseraddish?
Response(s): This was so good! It is stuffed grape leaves with the filling being a meat and cabbage mixture I believe. Sour cream for sure!

Looks like a Greek-ish salad. I love corichons and feta together.
Spot on! This is the best Greek salad I've ever eaten...actually...I've had it three time this week!

April_1st_&_2nd_Russia_020.jpg
Is that a hard boiled egg in the soup? Not a bad idea, is it any good? -Absolutely! I've never eaten so well!

Sweet- This strawberry jam is probably ten times better than the jam in Soylent Green! I ate it by itself. Whole strawberries in there!
